Dr. Robb Killen Hired as New MCPS Supervisor of Counseling & Mental Health

Dr. Robb Killen has been hired as the Supervisor of Counseling and Mental Health for Maury County Public Schools. Killen has been serving as Assistant Division Head for K-4 students at Currey Ingram Academy in Brentwood, TN for the past year. Since 2007, he was Currey Ingram Academy’s Professional School Counselor for fifth and sixth grade students with learning differences. Killen also worked in Metro Nashville Public Schools as a school counselor at Charlotte Park Elementary School.

Director of MCPS Dr. Chris Marczak said about the administrative addition, “Our district has had a need for oversight and resources in the area of counseling and mental health, and Dr. Killen is the perfect fit for this. He’ll bring much-needed professional development and continuity for our school counselors.” At Killen’s most recent post, he supported school-wide positive behavior programs for nearly 100 students with learning differences such as ADHD, dyslexia and autism. He also worked with students’ academic assessments and taught character education and social skills. “I am excited to be a part of Maury County Schools and bring my areas of expertise, not just to the school counselors but ultimately to our students and the community at large,” said Killen.

Killen has conducted lectures on building effective character education programs and creating safe schools through bullying prevention for the Tennessee Association of Independent Schools, Vanderbilt University, Character Plus National Conference, and the Tennessee School Counselors and Administrators Institute. ξHe’s worked in the field of educational programming for more than 15 years as a writer, developer, and puppeteer for Opryland, the Jim Henson Company and PBS. His character education series, Webster and the P.O.D. Squad, is being utilized at schools across the Southeast.

Killen received his Bachelor of Science degree in Behavior Science with a minor in Psychology from Trevecca Nazarene University, graduating Magna Cum Laude. His master’s degree in Pre K-12 School Counseling comes from Tennessee State University. Killen earned his Doctorate of Education in Leadership and Professional Practice from Trevecca Nazarene University.
