Summit High School Fishing Team Place in Florida Tournament

On January 17th, Brandon Johns and Levi Hood traveled to Okeechobee, Florida to fish in the TBF Florida Open High School Tournament. The fishing conditions were tough with 50 MPH winds and they were restricted to just fishing the Kissimmee River that dumps into Lake Okeechobee.

The tournament had 43 boats with High School Teams in them. Practice day was January 16 and the tournament was the 17th. They caught 3 fish during practice but the conditions got tougher on tournament day. Brandon and Levi were able to catch one keeper that weighed 2lbs 15oz. which put them in 17th place for the tournament out of 43 boats. Very respectable considering they had never been on that lake or even fished in Florida before.

Most of the teams were from Florida with a few from out of state. The two teams from Tennessee were Summit High School and Creekwood High School in Dickson county. The team from South Carolina won the tournament with a 5 fish limit weighing 26 lbs 8oz. The next closest team to them only had 10lbs 8oz.

Summit Fishing is planning to open their season here in Tennessee by Fishing the “Battle on Chick” tournament March 11 and 12 on Lake Chickamauga out of the Dayton Boat Dock sponsored by Bass Pro Shops.
